The 29-year-old forward, who plays for Al-Fayha FC, made the remarks while speaking to Argentine newspaper Olé, where he addressed the long-running debate between two of football’s most celebrated figures.

Sakala acknowledged Messi’s quality but firmly backed Ronaldo when asked to choose between the pair.

“Messi is strong, but I think Ronaldo is better than Messi,” Fashion Sakala said, offering a candid and confident assessment that has already drawn attention among football fans following the build-up to the friendly encounter.

Sakala’s comments came as he prepares to lead Zambia in what is expected to be a challenging fixture against Argentina.

The striker expressed both excitement and anticipation about facing one of the world’s top national teams, describing the occasion as a significant moment in his international career.

He noted that he had envisioned playing against Argentina on numerous occasions and emphasised the importance of the match for both personal and team development.

Sakala highlighted the enthusiasm within the squad, adding that the players were eager to test themselves against elite opposition in a competitive environment.

“This will be a very exciting and interesting match. My teammates and I are very excited,” Sakala said, reflecting the team’s collective mindset ahead of the game.

The encounter at La Bombonera Stadium is expected to draw considerable attention, not only due to the calibre of the opposition but also because of Argentina’s global profile, led by Lionel Messi.
