Nigeria’s Samson Adamu has been appointed CAF Acting General Secretary after Veron Mosengo-Omba stepped down to pursue FECOFA presidential ambition
Nigeria’s Samson Adamu has been appointed as the Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), marking a major milestone in his career in football administration.
The appointment places Adamu at the administrative helm of African football during a key transitional period within the continental body.
He takes over from Veron Mosengo-Omba of DR Congo, who stepped down from the role to focus on his bid for the presidency of the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFA).
Before his elevation, Adamu served as CAF’s Director of Competitions, where he oversaw the organisation of major tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations and various inter-club championships across the continent.
His role involved coordinating logistics, competition structures, and regulatory compliance for CAF tournaments, strengthening his profile as one of the organisation’s key technical administrators.
Football stakeholders across Africa regard Adamu as a seasoned sports administrator with strong institutional knowledge and experience in competition management.
His appointment is seen as a move that will ensure continuity and stability within CAF’s administrative structure during the ongoing leadership transition.
Adamu is the son of Dr. Amos Adamu, a former FIFA Executive Committee member who was banned from football in 2010 following a corruption-related scandal.
Despite this family association, Samson Adamu has built an independent career in football governance, earning recognition through years of professional service within CAF structures.
His new role is expected to further position him within the upper ranks of African football administration.
