Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II made the remarks while addressing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Government House, where he emphasised that effective leadership requires a balance of justice and firm authority to maintain order and stability in Kano State.

Drawing from Islamic teachings, the Emir explained that authority is an essential pillar of governance, stating that justice alone cannot be sustained without strength and control.

He referenced the Qur’an to reinforce his message, noting that leadership must be backed by firm enforcement of law and order.

Sanusi praised Governor Yusuf for notable improvements in education, healthcare delivery and welfare programmes across the state.

However, he cautioned that excessive tolerance towards individuals engaging in disorderly conduct could undermine governance.

According to the Emir, public perception in Kano suggests that the governor has been overly patient in handling emerging security and administrative challenges.

He warned that such perceptions could embolden misconduct if not addressed.

“Because of the disorder happening in Kano, people think the governor is too patient and that everyone can behave however they like,” Sanusi said, urging the governor to take stronger control of the situation.

He further advised Yusuf to ensure that respect is accorded to those who uphold good conduct while firm consequences are applied to those who violate the law.

He stressed that Kano State must be seen as firmly governed under clear authority.

Sanusi added that the emirate council would continue to support the administration, expressing confidence that Kano’s future development depends on the success of the current leadership.

In his response, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed gratitude to the Emir and the emirate council for their continued support.

He also addressed the cancellation of the Hawan Daushe procession, explaining that the decision was taken to prevent possible violence during Eid celebrations.
