Senator OGD accuses Ogun authorities of harmful governance after federal road works in Ijebu North were halted

Senator Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East, on Sunday in Ijebu Igbo warned that what he described as harmful governance in Ogun State threatens development efforts and risks depriving local communities of crucial federal projects.

Speaking at a gathering of traditional rulers, party leaders and residents of Ijebu North Local Government, Senator Daniel said the recent suspension announced by aides of the Ogun State Governor was politically motivated and not based on any genuine allegation.

Senator Daniel, a former Governor of Ogun State, insisted that neither he nor members of his political movement had engaged in anti-party activities.

Senator Daniel accused the state administration of running what he termed a “three-man closed government”, alleging that individuals who offer independent counsel are sidelined or punished.

He said repeated private attempts to advise the Governor were met with exclusion from party and government activities.

The lawmaker said the dispute escalated after federal road rehabilitation works in Itanrin and at General Hospital Road were halted by a stop-work order issued through the local government.

He said the projects, facilitated through federal agencies, risk losing their funding by December 2025 if the obstruction continues.

Senator Daniel argued that the move was punitive rather than administrative, and warned that the State Government’s actions could undermine the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

He also highlighted community concerns, noting what he called a growing internal frustration with decisions that appear to undermine public interest.

Senator Daniel described the halting of the projects as a “powerful example” of how governance can become detrimental when driven by personal grievances.

The Senator appealed to traditional rulers and community leaders to intervene and urged the Governor to allow the works to continue.

He emphasised his longstanding contributions to educational and infrastructural development in the region, including the expansion of tertiary institutions during his time as Governor.

Senator Daniel reaffirmed his commitment to facilitating federal projects for Ijebu North, stating that neither political pressure nor intimidation would deter him from pursuing development initiatives.
