Attendees included those accepted, deposited, or identified as strong candidates for SGU’s program, aiming to provide guidance and facilitate connections ahead of matriculation.

The event featured interactive sessions with SGU alumni currently practicing in Botswana, who shared experiences on academic preparation, clinical rotations, residency placements, and pursuing medical careers internationally.

Dr. Orapeleng Phuswane-Katse, an SGU alumna, highlighted the value of the workshop.

“Choosing where to study medicine is a significant decision. SGU provided me with an academic foundation and access to a global professional network that has contributed to my career development,” she said.

Dr. Thuto Victor echoed the sentiment, emphasising the advantage of international exposure and adaptability. “SGU prepared me to think beyond geography.

The clinical experiences, diverse student body, and mentorship opportunities positioned me to compete and excel globally,” he said.

The workshop demonstrates SGU’s commitment to student engagement and support for medical education in Africa.

Botswana hosts approximately 130 SGU-trained graduates, many of whom practice medicine locally and internationally.

As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, SGU will host a commencement ceremony in Gaborone to honour graduating students, faculty, alumni, families, and healthcare leaders, further cementing the University’s engagement with the region.
