Former Anka council chairman Sharu Anka dumps APC for ADC, citing injustice, unequal opportunities and internal divisions within the party

A former chairman of Anka Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Alhaji Sharu Anka, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing alleged injustice and unresolved internal crises within the ruling party.

Anka announced his resignation in a letter on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, accusing the APC of failing to provide equal opportunities for members and maintain unity among its leaders.

He said the situation had made it increasingly difficult for him to remain in the party.

“Let me formally announce that I was forced to leave the APC by the high rate of injustice, denials of equal opportunity and indisputable lack of unity and understanding, especially in the system of running the affairs of the party,” he said.

The former council chairman also accused some APC members of disregarding the contributions of other party loyalists while allowing a small group to dominate its affairs.

“There is total neglect and failure to recognise contributions given by the party members, and some cliques in the APC have turned the party into an unbearable style of family and friends’ affairs,” Anka added.

He further disclosed that his political supporters across Zamfara State had joined him in moving to the ADC, although the source did not specify their number.

Anka is a grassroots politician who served two terms as chairman of Anka Local Government Area.

He also served four times as a commissioner overseeing different ministries under successive administrations in Zamfara State.

His defection comes amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as politicians and parties position themselves for the next electoral contest.

However, the allegations of injustice and internal divisions were made by Anka in explaining his decision to leave the APC. The report did not include a response from the party to his claims.
