Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has urged ex-President Goodluck Jonathan not to consider a return bid for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Sani addressed growing speculation around Jonathan’s possible comeback, stressing that the political terrain has changed drastically since his time in power.

“Each time there is an election, Jonathan’s name resurfaces. While it’s his right to contest, I advise him not to. The PDP he once knew no longer exists in that form,” Sani said.

The former lawmaker noted that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which carried Jonathan to victory in 2011, is now fractured with key members aligning with rival interests.

“The PDP in the South-West is endorsing the president. Some of its members are part of the new coalition. He shouldn’t waste his time,” he added.

Turning to the emerging coalition involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Sani questioned its credibility and ideological base, describing its members as no different from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We are in a democracy, and it’s within our rights to have an opposition. But if the only goal is to unseat President Tinubu without offering an alternative vision, then there is no real agenda,” he warned.

According to Sani, the policies of the coalition closely mirror those of the Tinubu administration, including subsidy removal and currency devaluation.

“There’s no ideological difference. It’s not a battle between opposing philosophies. Their track records and campaign messages show alignment with the status quo,” he argued.

By his assessment, Jonathan’s possible re-entry into politics would face not only structural challenges within the PDP but also an opposition bloc lacking clarity of vision and purpose.
