Siberia Gas Pipeline Explosion Causes Massive Fire

On 5 November 2026 in the Kemerovo region of Siberia, a powerful explosion hit a gas transmission pipeline, igniting a massive fire in the Topkinsky municipal district near the villages of Topki and Dedyuevo

Local authorities said the cause was believed to have been depressurization of the pipe. Videos circulating online showed intense flames and a towering column of smoke rising from the site.

Kemerovo region Governor Ilya Seredyuk confirmed that the fire had been extinguished and that specialists were working on the ground. No casualties were reported.

The incident forced the nearby Azot chemical plant to reduce production capacity temporarily because of a drop in gas pressure.

Officials stressed that there was no threat to personnel, equipment or the wider environment, and that the accident would not lead to gas or heating cut-offs for residents.

The pipeline forms part of the Nizhnevartovsk-Parabel-Kuzbass main line operated by Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk.

This is already the second major fire on a gas pipeline in Russia in the past month.

On 13 October, a section of the Central Asia–Center system ruptured in the Penza region, sending flames high into the air before the affected stretch was isolated.

The exact causes of both incidents remain under investigation, with no official confirmation of any external involvement.

Russian pipeline incidents are not uncommon, though two significant fires in quick succession have drawn attention.

Governor Seredyuk said a response headquarters led by his deputy was coordinating efforts on site, and further updates would be provided as assessments continued.
