Team Nigeria Ambassadors Commonwealth Games 2026 unveiled by NSC, featuring ex-directors, Olympians and stakeholders ahead of Glasgow event

The National Sports Commission has unveiled a distinguished list of Team Nigeria ambassadors ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, assembling a blend of experienced sports administrators, elite athletes and key institutional partners to support the country’s preparations.

The Team Nigeria Ambassadors Commonwealth Games 2026 lineup includes former Directors-General of the NSC such as Mallam Saleh Ahmadu, Dr Amos Adamu, Chief Patrick Ekeji, Alhassan Yakmut and Gbenga Elegbeleye, who are expected to play advisory and supervisory roles in guiding Nigeria’s participation at the global event.

Also featured in the ambassadorial team are notable sports personalities, including Olympic medallist Daniel Igali and wrestling star Blessing Oborodudu, alongside Tajudeen Ogunbade, Khadijat Sulaiman and Victor Iroele, representing a strong mix of competitive experience and sports development insight.

The Commission noted that the selection reflects a strategic approach aimed at combining administrative expertise, athlete perspective and institutional collaboration to strengthen Nigeria’s competitiveness on the international stage.

This approach is intended to enhance coordination and improve performance outcomes at the Games.

Corporate and institutional support also forms part of the ambassadorial framework, with organisations such as Premium Trust Bank and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Wale Adeniyi, included to provide backing for the initiative.

Their involvement underscores the importance of public-private partnership in sports development.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games are scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 2 August, with approximately 74 Commonwealth nations and territories expected to participate.

The event will feature a streamlined programme comprising 10 sports, including athletics, swimming, boxing, cycling and gymnastics, with para-sports fully integrated into the competition schedule.
