The experienced German international watched from the substitutes’ bench as the 17-year-old Yamal delivered a stellar performance against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal clash on Wednesday.

Barcelona convincingly defeated the German side 4-0, with goals from Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Yamal himself. Notably, Yamal also played a significant role in two of Lewandowski’s goals during the dominant victory.

The teenage sensation has already recorded an impressive tally of 14 goals and 21 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions this season for the Catalan giants.

Following the match, Ter Stegen was questioned about whether he had already asked Yamal for his match shirt to add to his collection.

According to reports from Barca Universal, the German custodian responded that he is waiting for a specific opportunity to swap shirts with the young winger – when they face each other on international duty.

“Actually? Not yet. I don’t. Maybe later, when we play each other in the national team,” Ter Stegen explained.

He added, “I usually keep the shirts after national team matches. I wish him the best.”

Lamine Yamal was a key member of the Spain squad that triumphed at Euro 2024 in the summer and was also recognised for his outstanding individual performances by being named the Best Young Player of the Tournament.
