Tinubu praises Lawal on his 61st birthday, commending Zamfara’s infrastructure, education, healthcare and industrialisation drive

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, congratulated Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal on his 61st birthday, describing the governor as a “Renaissance governor” whose administration has brought positive change to the state.

Tinubu conveyed the birthday message in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, as Lawal marked his 61st birthday.

The President highlighted Lawal’s efforts in infrastructure development, urban renewal and industrialisation, while also commending his administration for investing in education and healthcare across Zamfara.

According to the statement, Lawal’s development agenda has extended beyond physical infrastructure.

Tinubu specifically noted the rehabilitation of more than 800 schools and the recruitment of over 2,000 teachers as notable steps in strengthening education in the state.

The President also acknowledged improvements in healthcare, including the upgrading of hospitals and the provision of medical supplies to health facilities across Zamfara.

“The President celebrates Dr Lawal on this occasion, describing him as a Renaissance governor who has brought positive change to Zamfara,” the statement said.

Tinubu’s message comes as Lawal marks another year in office and continues to pursue a multi-sectoral approach to governance in the north-western state.

The President said the governor’s focus on several areas of development reflected the importance of combining infrastructure investment with human capital development.

“President Tinubu, a strong proponent of well-rounded development, says Governor Lawal’s multi-sectoral approach to governance is the right step toward holistic development, especially in human capital development,” the statement added.

The reference to Lawal’s industrialisation programme also reflects the administration’s stated interest in expanding economic opportunities within Zamfara.

Beyond physical projects, investments in schools, teachers and healthcare are intended to strengthen the state’s human capital and improve access to essential services.

Lawal, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, assumed office as Zamfara governor in May 2023 after defeating the incumbent All Progressives Congress candidate, Bello Matawalle, in the governorship election.

His administration has since made security, infrastructure, education and healthcare among the prominent areas of its governance agenda, against the backdrop of persistent security challenges affecting Zamfara and other parts of north-western Nigeria.

Tinubu and Lawal have, however, belonged to different political parties since the 2023 elections, making the President’s public commendation a notable gesture of goodwill.

The President concluded his message by wishing the Zamfara governor good health and renewed strength as he continues his service to the state and the country.

“As the governor celebrates this occasion, the President joins family, friends, and the good people of Zamfara to wish him good health and renewed strength as he continues to serve the state and the nation,” the statement said.
