The event will feature the attendance of Vice President Kashim Shettima and several APC governors, with party leaders describing the reception as a strategic move to consolidate APC influence in the north-west region.

Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, chairman of the APC in Kano, said the formal ceremony symbolises the governor’s integration into the ruling party and marks a milestone for Kano APC, a key political stronghold. Extensive preparations have been made to ensure the event runs smoothly, including security oversight by a 15-member committee chaired by Col. Umar Malami and a 16-member venue committee led by Hon. Bala Mohd Gwagwarwa.

The reception comes days after Governor Yusuf and his former political mentor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, demonstrated their popularity during separate visits to Singer Market following a devastating fire. Yusuf and Kwankwaso each received enthusiastic welcomes from traders, with Yusuf pledging government assistance to affected businesses.

Governor Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, to the APC followed stalled negotiations with Kwankwaso over what were described as “unrealistic demands.” The move has stirred debate among political observers and raised speculation over its impact on the 2027 general elections.
