Toke Makinwa tithes: Media personality reveals she stopped paying church tithes, preferring to support widows, hospital bills, and direct community needs
Media personality Toke Makinwa has sparked debate after revealing why she no longer pays tithes, arguing that many churches are already financially secure.
Makinwa made the comments during an interview on WithChude, explaining that most churches she knows constantly run building projects funded by congregants.
“Every church is building. Every Sunday, there’s a building fund envelope. You guys have so much money and it’s not taxed. It’s a business, if we are going to be real. Because if that pastor dies today, either his wife or his child becomes the next pastor,” she said.
Despite her stance on tithing, Makinwa clarified that she continues to give offerings and supports church projects when necessary.
She added that she now prefers to direct the funds she would have given as tithes to help people meet actual needs, such as paying house rent, supporting widows, and covering hospital or maternity bills.
Makinwa’s candid explanation has reignited conversations about modern giving, church finances, and the role of personal philanthropy.
