Troost-Ekong guides Al-Ahli into Ronaldo semi-final as Nigerian defender steers side into AFC Champions League clash with Al-Nassr after quarter-final win

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has led Al-Ahli Doha into the AFC Champions League Two semi-finals following a commanding 3–1 victory over Al-Hussein Irbid at Zabeel Stadium, setting up a blockbuster clash with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr.

Troost-Ekong set for Al-Ahli vs Ronaldo semi-final fixture was confirmed after Al-Ahli produced a strong second-half display to secure their place in the last four of the competition.

Al-Ahli made a flying start when Erik Expósito scored in the 2nd minute, before Al-Hussein Irbid restored parity through Yousef Qashi in the 21st minute.

The Qatari side regained control after the break, with Julian Draxler restoring the lead in the 65th minute via a direct corner effort. Michel Vlap then sealed the win with a stoppage-time penalty in the 97th minute, ensuring a comfortable passage into the semi-finals.

Troost-Ekong is expected to continue in his leadership role at the heart of defence when Al-Ahli face Al-Nassr, a fixture that will pit him against Cristiano Ronaldo and a star-studded attacking line.
