Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has commissioned the 5.5km Udo Inwang Road and erosion-control project in Uyo as part of activities marking the state’s 39th anniversary.
The project, which covers Udo Inwang and adjoining areas, comprises 11 roads and includes facilities designed to address erosion challenges in the area.
The commissioning is the ninth project unveiled by the state government as part of activities commemorating Akwa Ibom’s 39th anniversary.
The road project is expected to improve connectivity within the affected communities, ease movement and provide better access for residents and businesses in the area.
The erosion-control component is also aimed at tackling the environmental challenges that have affected parts of Udo Inwang. Residents have previously described the erosion situation in the area as severe, with some claiming that it contributed to people abandoning parts of the community.
The state government has continued to place infrastructure development among the priorities of the Eno administration, with road construction and rehabilitation forming part of its broader development programme.
The commissioning adds to a series of projects being unveiled across Akwa Ibom as the state marks its 39th anniversary, with the government highlighting infrastructure as a key part of its development agenda.
