UEFA distributes a record €9 million to 103 clubs for player releases during Women’s Euro 2025, doubling the amount from 2022 and supporting women’s football development
Women’s football clubs across Europe have received a record €9 million from UEFA’s club benefits programme for releasing players to participate in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.
The payments, agreed in collaboration with the European Football Clubs (EFC), mark a doubling of the funds distributed during Women’s Euro 2022.
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin highlighted the importance of the payments, stating, “As women’s football continues to grow and thrive, we want everyone to share in its success. The club benefits programme is a reflection of the vital role European clubs play in developing the players who made UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 such a groundbreaking and memorable tournament.”
The programme rewards both elite and amateur clubs whose players were selected for national teams.
It also aligns with UEFA’s broader financial growth in women’s football, including a 156% increase in Women’s Euro prize money and a guaranteed share of rewards for players for the first time.
Nadine Kessler, UEFA Director for Women’s Football, emphasized the collaborative effort behind the tournament’s success.
“The massive success of UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 was made possible through collective efforts, significant investment, and outstanding performances by world-class players proudly wearing their national team jerseys. The club benefits programme recognises the immense contribution of the clubs in developing this top talent,” she said.
Payments were distributed to clubs across 16 leagues, calculated according to the number of days each player was released, including ten preparation days. Each player earned a daily rate of €1,095, guaranteeing a minimum of €21,900 for those whose teams were eliminated after the group stage.
This landmark distribution underscores UEFA’s commitment to supporting the growth and sustainability of women’s football at both club and international levels.
