Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has revealed that midfielder Manuel Ugarte is expected to leave the club this summer, joining Casemiro in departing Old Trafford.

Neville made the comments following Manchester United’s 3-1 Premier League win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

Speaking on his Sky Sports podcast, he said the Red Devils will need to recruit two central midfielders during the upcoming transfer window.

“Casemiro is leaving, and I think Ugarte will leave too, so Manchester United need two really good central midfielders this summer transfer window,” Neville stated.

“Probably one that is more positional, like a Michael Carrick-type, and one that is more of a destroyer.”

Ugarte, signed from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024, has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League.

Under caretaker manager Michael Carrick, the midfielder has yet to start a single match for Manchester United.

Neville’s remarks highlight the club’s pressing need to strengthen the midfield ahead of the 2026–2027 season, following the exits of key players.
