Umuahia illegal structures demolition exercise was carried out as part of ongoing urban renewal efforts aimed at restoring order and improving the aesthetic value of key public spaces in the state capital.

The operation comes approximately two weeks after the Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA) removed unapproved shops and shanties opposite the ShopRite axis within the city centre.

The latest demolition was supervised by a combined team of security personnel to ensure compliance and maintain order during the exercise.

When reporters arrived at the site, displaced occupants were seen sorting through debris in an attempt to recover remaining belongings, while some appealed for financial support from government agencies and private individuals.

In a related development, the state government has also commenced fencing and beautification works around previously cleared areas opposite the ShopRite corridor, signalling a broader urban regeneration programme.

Officials say the initiative is part of a sustained effort to eliminate illegal encroachments, improve traffic flow, and enhance the overall appearance of Umuahia’s urban landscape.
