The latest assessment also ranked UNIOSUN 137th among 2,390 universities across Africa, highlighting the institution’s growing research profile, digital visibility and expanding academic influence.

The ranking marks a significant step in the university’s development journey and reflects years of investment in research, innovation, teaching quality and global engagement.

In a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, UNIOSUN described the achievement as a reflection of the collective efforts of its Governing Council, management, staff, students, alumni and development partners.

The university attributed the improved ranking to deliberate initiatives focused on strengthening research output, promoting digital scholarship, expanding international partnerships and enhancing academic standards.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye said the ranking validated the institution’s strategic direction and commitment to building a globally competitive university.

“Being ranked 19th among all universities in Nigeria, third among state universities and 137th in Africa is a clear indication that our collective efforts are yielding tangible results on the global stage,” Adebooye said.

He added that the achievement demonstrated the impact of sustained investment in academic excellence, research productivity and digital transformation.

The Vice-Chancellor credited the progress to teamwork, resilience and an institutional culture that prioritises innovation and purposeful service.

“This achievement belongs to every member of the UNIOSUN community. It reflects our shared commitment to excellence, innovation and continuous improvement,” he said.

Adebooye also acknowledged the contributions of academic and non-academic staff, students, alumni and partners who have supported the university’s growth and rising international visibility.

Founded as a state-owned university committed to expanding access to quality higher education, UNIOSUN has continued to strengthen its presence through research development, academic programmes and institutional partnerships.

The latest ranking places the university among Nigeria’s fastest-rising public institutions and reinforces its ambition to become a leading research-driven university in Africa.
