Canadian tennis sensation Victoria Mboko continued her remarkable debut at the Indian Wells Open, defeating American Amanda Anisimova 6-4, 6-1 in the fourth round on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals.

The 19-year-old’s victory makes her the first Canadian woman to reach the last eight at the California event since Bianca Andreescu’s title run in 2019.

Mboko, ranked world No. 10, has now secured three consecutive wins over Top 10 opponents this season.

Her recent form has been equally impressive in WTA 1000 tournaments, winning 15 of her last 18 matches since claiming her breakthrough title in Montreal last summer.

The fourth-round contest began evenly, with both players holding serve through the first six games.

Mboko earned the first break at 4-3 with a precise backhand that forced an error from Anisimova.

From there, she dominated the remainder of the match, winning 10 of the final 12 games to close out a straight-sets victory.

Statistically, Mboko’s performance was commanding.

She hit 14 winners against just seven unforced errors, converted all four break points, and saved the only break-point opportunity she faced with three consecutive aces.

“I knew Amanda’s a really good player,” Mboko said in her on-court interview.

“I tried to match her pace and stay with her as much as possible. I’m glad to have gotten it done.”

Mboko now faces world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals, who earlier defeated Naomi Osaka 6-2, 6-4.

The pair previously met in the fourth round of the Australian Open this year, where Sabalenka prevailed in straight sets, though Mboko mounted a spirited second-set comeback.
