WACCIMA urges South-South stakeholders to stop compromising and demand full operation of Delta ports, highlighting benefits for employment, trade logistics, and economic growth

The Warri Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (WACCIMA) has called on stakeholders in the South-South to demand full operationalisation of Delta ports to unlock employment and economic opportunities.

Engr. Anthony Okoh, President of WACCIMA and the Delta Association of Chambers of Commerce (DACCIMA), said the region often compromises on critical issues affecting port efficiency.

He linked underperformance to deteriorating road infrastructure, overloading of roads by heavy-duty traffic, and insufficient government support.

Okoh recommended the development of a railway network connecting Niger Delta states to major business corridors to ease road pressure and improve trade logistics.

He also lamented limited engagement from Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori with the organised private sector, noting missed opportunities in projects like mechanised farming and recycling initiatives.
