The operation was announced by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, in Damaturu.

Four suspected members of the syndicate were arrested following an intelligence-led operation. The police also rescued one abducted individual and recovered a Toyota SUV reportedly used in the commission of the crimes.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was abducted in Damaturu by suspects posing as security operatives,” the statement said.

The suspects allegedly fabricated allegations of graft and financial impropriety against the victim to intimidate, extort, and unlawfully detain him before transporting him toward Potiskum in a hired vehicle.

The four suspects have voluntarily confessed to the offences and are currently in police custody, while investigations continue to ensure diligent prosecution, the statement added.
