A Yobe student, Hassan Ahmadu, died after a bullying incident at Potiskum school. Police have launched an investigation into the tragedy
Hassan Ahmadu, a 17-year-old Senior Secondary School 3 student of the Government Science and Technical College, Potiskum, has reportedly died following an alleged bullying incident involving fellow students.
The incident occurred on Sunday at the school in Potiskum Local Government Area.
According to a family source, Hassan was buried the same day in his hometown of Gadaka, in Fika Local Government Area.
Sources said Hassan was attacked by classmates under circumstances yet to be clarified by authorities.
A teacher at the school, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that Hassan had been bullied for some time.
“On Sunday, he asked them to stop, but they refused and attacked him. They beat him badly, and he later died. The whole school was shocked by what happened,” the teacher said.
School authorities reportedly handed over the students suspected to be involved to the police.
The Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed that an investigation has commenced.
“Yes, we are aware of the incident, and an investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain what led to the death of the student,” Abdulkarim said.
When contacted, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Yobe State, Prof. Abba Idriss Adam, said he would provide further details after reviewing the situation.
The investigation aims to establish the exact circumstances of Hassan’s death and ensure accountability for those responsible.
