The incident occurred after a distress call was received at about 5:30 pm, prompting a rapid response from security forces deployed in the area.

Upon arrival, the troops met vigilantes already engaged in a gun battle with the attackers, indicating that the confrontation had begun before military reinforcements reached the scene.

The combined efforts of the troops and local vigilantes reportedly forced the attackers to retreat into nearby bushland.

Security personnel subsequently conducted a sweep of the area to assess the aftermath and ensure no immediate threat remained within the community.

During the follow-up operation, it was discovered that two residents had been killed in the course of the exchange of fire.

The development added a tragic dimension to an already volatile situation, underscoring the risks faced by civilians in conflict-prone regions.

Security forces have since maintained a heightened presence in Maiwa village, with ongoing patrols aimed at preventing further incursions and restricting the movement of the attackers.

The sustained deployment is intended to reassure residents and stabilise the area following the incident.
