Governor Dauda Lawal flags off Zamfara road projects linking four LGAs, including a 53-kilometre route expected to boost trade and connectivity
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has flagged off the construction and reconstruction of strategic road projects linking four local government areas to improve transportation, economic activities and access to essential services.
The projects cover Gusau, Bungudu, Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji local government areas.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the projects include the Tashar Abu-Kekun Waje-Bingi Road in Bungudu, the Kwatarkwashi-Mada Road and the Gusau-Jauri-Dogon Kade-Dan Isah Nasarawa Mailayi-Nasarawa Godel Road.
The Tashar Abu-Kekun Waje-Bingi Road project will involve reconstruction, earthworks, pavement construction, drainage and erosion control. It is expected to be completed within 18 months.
The reconstruction of the Kwatarkwashi-Mada Road has been awarded to Zhongcheng Construction Nigeria Limited, with a completion period of 12 months.
The third project, covering approximately 53 kilometres from Gusau through Jauri, Dogon Kade and Nasarawa Mailayi to Nasarawa Godel, has been awarded to CCECC Nigeria Limited and is expected to be completed within 18 months.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the final phase of the Gusau-Nasarawa Godel Road, Lawal described the projects as important milestones in his administration’s Rescue Mission.
He said the initiative was aimed at rebuilding infrastructure, restoring hope, improving security and expanding economic opportunities across the state.
The governor described good road infrastructure as essential to economic growth, security, social development and the well-being of residents.
He said the 53-kilometre road would cover four local government areas, with five kilometres allocated to Gusau, 12 kilometres to Bungudu, nine kilometres to Kaura Namoda and 27 kilometres to Birnin Magaji.
According to him, the construction work would include earthworks, culverts of different sizes, reinforced concrete-lined drains, erosion control and other associated activities.
The project will also feature three bridges with three-span, two-span and 10-span structures to ensure safer and more reliable movement along the route.
Lawal said the completed roads would connect communities to their respective local government headquarters and Gusau, the state capital, thereby reducing travel costs and journey times while improving access to markets and essential services.
He added that better road connectivity would make it easier for farmers to transport their agricultural produce to markets.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, saying the projects formed part of broader efforts to improve living conditions and strengthen economic activities across Zamfara State.
