Zamfara terrorist attack foiled as troops repel assailants in Maiwa village, recover corpses and intensify patrols in the area

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, foiled a terrorist attack on Maiwa village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State following a rapid response to a distress call, successfully repelling the assailants and restoring a measure of calm to the community.

Security sources confirmed that the troops arrived at the scene at approximately 5:30 pm after reports of an ongoing assault. Upon arrival, they encountered local vigilantes already engaged in a firefight with the attackers, prompting an immediate reinforcement that shifted the momentum of the confrontation.

The coordinated response forced the suspected terrorists to retreat into surrounding forested areas, abandoning their attempt to overrun the village.

Subsequent clearance operations conducted by the troops revealed that two villagers had been killed during the exchange of fire, underscoring the deadly nature of the encounter.

Authorities noted that the troops maintained a sustained presence in the area following the incident, carrying out aggressive patrols aimed at denying the attackers freedom of movement and preventing any further incursions.

The operation is part of broader efforts to stabilise communities across Zamfara State, which has faced persistent security challenges linked to armed groups.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the development via a post on X, highlighted the swift coordination between the military and local vigilantes as a decisive factor in preventing further casualties.

The intervention, described by observers as timely and robust, reflects ongoing efforts by security forces to respond quickly to intelligence and distress signals from vulnerable communities.

While normalcy has been gradually restored in the immediate aftermath of the attack, residents remain cautious as patrols continue in the surrounding areas.

Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to maintaining a visible presence and sustaining pressure on armed groups operating in the region.
