Senator Solomon Adeola faces political rift in Ogun APC as Governor Dapo Abiodun allegedly sidelines him at events, heightening tensions within the party

Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, is at the center of a growing political rift in Ogun State as Governor Dapo Abiodun allegedly intensifies efforts to curb his influence within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sources say Governor Abiodun instructed party executives to avoid Yayi’s recent birthday celebration. Despite the directive, some defiant executives attended the event, heightening tensions within the ruling party.

The governor is reported to be enforcing strict loyalty among key party stakeholders, allegedly requiring several APC executives to swear allegiance.

He also reportedly directed Ogun State Television (OGTV) not to cover Yayi’s birthday. After public backlash, OGTV later asked organizers to pay for airtime coverage.

This is not the first time Yayi’s political activities have been targeted. Earlier this year, Governor Abiodun allegedly discouraged the senator from attending the Ojude Oba Festival and warned his loyalists against attending the Lisabi Festival.

Yayi’s supporters responded by hosting private gatherings near the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), signaling his continued political strength.

Observers note that these repeated face-offs reflect a silent struggle for control of Ogun APC ahead of 2027, with Senator Solomon Adeola emerging as a formidable figure unsettling the governor’s camp.

The internal battle raises concerns about potential factional conflicts that could shape the party’s future in the state.
