Identified as Muhammed Muamadu Haru, 35, and Abubakar Muhammed Haruna, 25, the suspects were recognized by a vigilante member as part of a kidnapping syndicate.

Officers intercepted them after a brief exchange of fire, preventing their escape into the bush.

Investigations are ongoing.

The arrests are part of proactive patrols and intelligence-led operations spearheaded by the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, aimed at dismantling kidnapping networks in the region.

In a related incident on February 2, a motorcycle patrol foiled another kidnapping attempt along the same highway, with three suspects fleeing into the forest, leaving behind suspected criminal logistics including food, mobile phones, and knives. Bush-combing operations remain ongoing to apprehend them.

CP Agbonika commended the officers’ professionalism and urged residents to remain vigilant, reporting suspicious activities to police stations or emergency lines.

Recent operations have already led to the arrest of 13 suspected kidnappers and vandals, and the rescue of three abductees.
