MC Oluomo has regained the NURTW secretariat in Abuja after a rival faction takeover, as leadership dispute within the union continues

National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has regained control of the union’s national secretariat in Abuja following a brief takeover by a rival faction.

The MC Oluomo NURTW secretariat takeover occurred on Tuesday after a faction led by Tajudeen Baruwa occupied the facility, claiming court rulings supported their action.

MC Oluomo later visited the secretariat to assess the situation and inspect reported damage after retaking control of the premises.

The rival faction had earlier insisted that their occupation of the secretariat was backed by valid court judgments and carried out in a peaceful manner.

Baruwa stated that his group acted based on legal decisions from both lower and appellate courts, adding that they had notified security agencies before moving in.

He also alleged that one of his members was attacked during the incident, though he maintained that the takeover was not intended to be violent.

However, MC Oluomo dismissed the action, describing it as a forceful takeover and insisting that legal processes regarding the leadership dispute were still ongoing.

He maintained that he was not a party to the judgment being cited by the rival faction and noted that an appeal had already been filed alongside a stay of execution.

Akinsanya reaffirmed his position as the legitimate national president of the union and urged members to remain calm as the matter continues in court.

Security agencies were reported to be monitoring the situation as tensions persist within the transport union over its leadership structure.
