NDLEA Edo drug trafficking arrests were confirmed on Wednesday by the State Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, while presenting the agency’s operational scorecard for April 2026.

Ofoyeju said the arrests followed targeted raids on known drug hotspots and coordinated motorised patrols across Edo State, describing the outcome as a significant operational success in the fight against illicit drug networks.

According to the agency, the 29 suspects comprise 19 males and 10 females apprehended in various locations linked to drug distribution and trafficking activities.

A detailed breakdown of the seizures showed large quantities of cannabis, psychotropic substances, tramadol, rohypnol, diazepam injections, bromazepam, methamphetamine traces, and codeine syrup, highlighting the scale of illicit trade disrupted by the operation.

The agency also confirmed the destruction of a cannabis farm in Egbeta Forest, Ovia North-East Local Government Area, covering nearly one hectare and capable of producing over 2,000 kilograms of cannabis.

Beyond arrests and seizures, the command said it recorded five convictions within the period and filed additional charges, while 89 cases remain pending before the Federal High Court in Benin City.

Ofoyeju noted that the agency is also prioritising rehabilitation and prevention, disclosing that several individuals have received counselling and ongoing support services as part of its demand reduction strategy.

He further revealed that multiple sensitisation programmes were conducted across communities to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
