ACF calls for urgent national security overhaul in Nigeria following deadly terror attacks in Borno, Plateau, and other states

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has called for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s national security strategies to prevent further anarchy from extremism and insurgency, following a series of deadly attacks across the country.

In a statement, Prof. T. A. Muhammad-Baba, ACF National Publicity Secretary, expressed deep concern over the recent bomb blast in Maiduguri, Borno State, on March 16, which caused multiple deaths, injuries, and destruction of critical military facilities. He noted that similar violent incidents had been reported in Plateau, Katsina, Kwara, Niger, and Zamfara states.

“The tragic bloodletting incidents have resulted in losses of lives and property, disruption of livelihoods, and fractured social relations. These attacks suggest a coordinated strategy by extremist terror groups intent on disrupting the semblance of normality our communities have managed,” Muhammad-Baba said.

The ACF condemned the attacks, extended condolences to victims, and criticised the insufficient response by political authorities. The group stressed that the current approach has failed to effectively confront Boko Haram, insurgents, and other criminal elements.

Muhammad-Baba emphasised the need for demonstrable force and political will to tackle terrorism and banditry, warning that failure to act could plunge Nigeria into widespread anarchy. “Unless the pervasive insecurity problem is confronted soonest, Nigeria risks a catastrophic and dangerous slide into avoidable chaos,” the statement added.

While acknowledging efforts by federal and state agencies, the forum urged intensified measures focused on eliminating extremism rather than politicking, insisting that national security must be prioritised above all else.
