Akinwunmi Ambode mobilises allies for Tinubu and Hamzat ahead of 2027, with plans to rally Lagos communities and party supporters in Epe

LAGOS, Nigeria, 5 November 2026: Former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has mobilised political associates to strengthen support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Kadri Obafemi Hamzat ahead of the 2027 elections.

The mobilisation followed a strategic meeting Ambode held with his political associates on Wednesday, 4 November, according to a statement issued by the Ambode Support Associates and shared with PUNCH Online.

The group’s representative, Adeshina Tiamiyu, said preparations were under way to receive Hamzat and other APC candidates in Epe next week.

The proposed gathering is expected to bring together party members, political leaders, community stakeholders and supporters from across Lagos State.

Tiamiyu said the engagement would strengthen existing alliances and renew commitment to the party’s electoral prospects.

The mobilisation is also expected to reach communities, Community Development Associations, market women, artisans and persons living with disabilities.

“The message is clear: unity must translate into action, relationships must translate into stronger alliances, and collective commitment must translate into electoral success because we believe strongly in inclusion,” the statement said.

The latest effort builds on Ambode’s public backing for Hamzat earlier this year. In April, the former governor congratulated Hamzat after the Lagos APC’s Governance Advisory Council adopted him as its consensus governorship aspirant for 2027.

Ambode also expressed support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Hamzat’s emergence received backing from the GAC in April, followed by an endorsement from Tinubu at a meeting with Lagos APC leaders.

The party’s state leadership has presented the consensus arrangement as a means of promoting unity, although the party’s formal nomination process remains governed by its rules.

In September, Ambode was also named alongside former governor Babatunde Fashola as a co-chairman in the Lagos APC campaign council structure for the 2027 elections, while Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was listed as council chairman.

Ambode governed Lagos from May 2015 to May 2019, after succeeding Fashola. He won the 2015 governorship election for the APC but lost the party’s 2018 primary to Sanwo-Olu, who went on to win the election and succeed him.

The former governor’s renewed mobilisation comes as the APC begins consolidating support around its candidates ahead of the 2027 polls.

The planned Epe gathering is expected to serve as a platform for strengthening party relationships and expanding outreach, though its electoral impact will depend on how effectively the mobilisation translates into support across the state.
