Asuen, who contested the Edo South senatorial seat under the APC in the 2023 general election but lost to Labour Party’s Neda Imasuen, was suspended in a statement issued Monday by the state publicity secretary, Barr. Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie.

According to Uwadiae-Igbinigie, Asuen’s actions violated Article 21 of the APC Constitution (2022, as amended), which outlines offences and disciplinary measures for members whose conduct undermines party unity.

The party spokesman accused the former state youth leader of inciting division among members, thereby threatening the stability of the APC.

“Such behaviour, as attributed to Asuen, attracts sanctions including suspension. Edo APC is committed to discipline and internal democracy. It would not tolerate acts capable of destabilizing the party or creating disaffection among its members,” the statement read.

The publicity secretary also dismissed claims that recent political appointments in Oredo Local Government Area, announced by Governor Monday Okpebholo, were influenced by APC State Secretary Lawrence Okah.

He stressed that appointments have been equitably distributed across Edo State.
