Arne Slot says Liverpool must aim high as they chase FA Cup and Champions League success after falling out of the Premier League title race

The Liverpool manager hopes the two competitions can salvage the club’s season after a disappointing defence of their Premier League title.

Relegation-threatened Tottenham Hotspur F.C. will visit Anfield on Sunday.

The fixture comes almost a year after Spurs’ last trip, when Liverpool sealed the league title.

Despite spending nearly £450 million in the transfer market, Liverpool sit sixth in the table. They are 19 points behind leaders Arsenal F.C..

Slot’s side also suffered a 1–0 defeat in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash against Galatasaray S.K. earlier this week.

They also face a difficult FA Cup quarter-final away to Manchester City F.C..

Slot insisted that expectations at Liverpool remain unchanged despite their struggles.

“The bar at Liverpool is always high,” he said. “It has always been high and will always be high. We are a top club.”

“This season we cannot win the league again, but we are still competing in two cups — the Champions League and the FA Cup.”

Liverpool could welcome back goalkeeper Alisson Becker for Sunday’s match after he missed the midweek trip to Istanbul with a minor muscle injury.

However, club-record signing Alexander Isak remains sidelined after suffering a fractured fibula in December.

Liverpool are level on points with Chelsea F.C. and three points behind both Manchester United F.C. and Aston Villa F.C., who meet at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Tottenham’s situation is more worrying. Spurs sit one point above the relegation zone after losing their last six matches in all competitions.

Interim manager Igor Tudor is expected to remain in charge for the trip to Anfield.
