According to Bauchi State Police Command spokesperson Ahmed Waziri, the incident occurred as fellow corps members were preparing for Sunday church services.

When Chukwuebuka failed to wake up, the Corps Liaison Officer went to check on him and discovered he was not breathing.

The matter was immediately reported to the Dambam Divisional Police Headquarters. Commissioner of Police Sani Aliu ordered the Divisional Police Officer to visit the scene.

The corps member was rushed to the hospital, where a doctor certified him dead in accordance with international best practices. His body was later deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Azare.

Waziri said the Commissioner has directed a thorough preliminary investigation, which is ongoing.

The incident recalls a similar case in 2023 in Adamawa State, where a corps member named Samuel collapsed and died while watching a football match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
