Benue father-son killing: Ankyambe Hembaor was fatally attacked by his son in Nyamatsoo Mbagen over a financial dispute, police launch investigation

Ankyambe Hembaor, an elderly resident of Nyamatsoo Mbagen, was hacked to death by his son, Tordue Ankyambe, during a heated financial dispute, local security expert Zagazola Makama reported on X on Monday.

According to Makama, the incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday when the suspect allegedly attacked his father with a machete after being denied money.

Neighbours rushed Hembaor to Agbecha Hospital in Nyamatsoo, where he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

Makama added that the Divisional Police Officer in Buruku promptly deployed operatives to the scene, documented the incident, and transferred the victim’s body to the hospital mortuary.

The suspect reportedly fled the community immediately after the attack.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect, with the State Criminal Investigation Department leading a full-scale investigation into the incident.

Authorities have yet to comment publicly.

When contacted, state police command spokesperson Udeme Edet requested that enquiries be sent via text and had not responded at the time of filing this report.

The incident comes amid rising concerns over domestic and financial disputes escalating into violence in Benue State.
