In a recent interview, Ogulu, often referred to as “Mama Burna,” opened up about her journey through the entertainment industry, revealing how she keeps personal and professional boundaries clear while nurturing one of Africa’s biggest music careers.

“Yes, sometimes it’s tough drawing the line between work and emotions,” she said.

“But I tell him: ‘Now your mom’s talking,’ or ‘I’m your manager, so yell at me.’ It helps us feel supported, even in disagreements. Objectivity is hard, but we practice.”

Ogulu, who now leads a touring team of over 40 young creatives, described them as her extended family.

Yes, sometimes it’s tough drawing the line between work and emotions.

“Family extends beyond my kids. Now I have 40 ‘kids’ on stage or touring with us,” she added.

She also reflected on the early sacrifices that laid the foundation for Burna Boy’s rise.

“Before, they couldn’t pay me; I funded their music, read contracts, handled admin,” she revealed.

“France is special because I speak French and took my kids on trips there, like Biarritz. It became part of their lives.”

For Ogulu, switching between the roles of mother and manager is all part of the job. “Easy if I was just a mom, I’d stay home. But this is my job,” she said.
