Over 3,000 residents in Delta and Edo states have benefited from free medical surgeries over the past decade through the Dr Paddy Emmanuel Foundation, the foundation’s Director-General, Zion Oshiobugie, has revealed.

Oshiobugie said the first nine editions of the programme were held in Delta State, while Edo residents are participating for the first time.

The initiative, launched by the foundation’s founder, Dr Paddy Iyamu, coincides with his birthday on 30 November each year.

“He marks his birthday with free surgeries to benefit humanity rather than celebrate with a party,” Oshiobugie said.

“The programme, which runs for one week annually, embodies our motto, ‘Touching lives’.”

The foundation partners with Dr Benjamin Olowojebutu and his 24-member team from Lagos.

They perform fibroid surgeries, hernia repairs, lipoma and breast lump removals, among other procedures. Olowojebutu highlighted the lasting impact of the interventions.

“Last week, we were informed that a woman we operated on in 2020 now has three children. These surgeries provide real relief for our people,” Olowojebutu said.

“The focus is on the underprivileged because this is giving back to God. Every year, patients share testimonies of the positive changes in their lives.”

Dr Iyamu, who also serves as Edo State Commissioner for Education, said the foundation’s work is apolitical and rooted in societal impact.

“The experience over the last 10 years has been fulfilling. I am happy to see burdens lifted off people,” Iyamu said. “Life is about giving back, and we started as far back as 2014.”
