The Commissioner’s Cup final 2025 culminated in a captivating showdown at the San Siro Stadium in Ipaja, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos, delivering a thrilling spectacle for football enthusiasts.

The highly anticipated tournament reached its climax amidst vibrant fanfare, with Dr Watts Football Club ultimately crowned champions after a nail-biting penalty shootout victory over Trade Safe FC.

The final score stood at 8-7 in favour of Dr Watts after the two teams were locked at 1-1 following the regulation 90 minutes of play.

Earlier in the day, the third-place match also concluded with a penalty shootout. Gunners FA displayed resilience, fighting back to secure a 5-3 victory on penalties against De Gracia FC, after both teams had also finished the regulation time with a 1-1 draw.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Bolaji Ogunlende, was present at the final and commended the organisers for their efforts in reviving the tournament after a significant hiatus of 23 years.

He pledged the Lagos State Government’s support for positive initiatives such as the Commissioner’s Cup, which are aimed at identifying and nurturing young sporting talents within the state.

The tournament’s sponsor, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, expressed his delight with the high standard of football demonstrated throughout the competition.

He also made a commitment to invest in upgrading the facilities at the San Siro Stadium, aiming to provide better resources for the development of youths in the Alimosho area.

The newly crowned champions, Dr Watts, were awarded the top cash prize of N500,000. The runners-up, Trade Safe FC, received N250,000, while the third-best team, Gunners FA, took home a prize of N150,000.

In addition to the team awards, individual accolades were also presented to recognise outstanding performances throughout the tournament.

These included awards for the best player of the tournament, the highest goal scorer, and the best goalkeeper.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has received a significant boost ahead of their Champions League semi-final second leg match against Arsenal, with star forward Ousmane Dembele declared fit to play.

The announcement was made by PSG coach Luis Enrique on Tuesday, following concerns about a hamstring injury sustained by the French international last week.

Dembele was substituted in the 70th minute of the first leg in London, shortly after scoring the decisive goal in the fourth minute, leading to doubts about his availability for Wednesday’s return fixture in Paris.

He subsequently missed PSG’s Ligue 1 match against Strasbourg on Saturday.

However, Dembele has since resumed training with the team at the beginning of the week, participating fully in the sessions.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Luis Enrique confirmed the positive news. “He’s been training with us for the last two days,” the coach stated. “You saw him today, a normal training session for him. He’ll be available tomorrow.”

The return of Dembele is a major lift for PSG as the France international has been in outstanding form this season, leading the team with 33 goals across all competitions.

In further positive news for the Parisian club, South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in also participated in the team’s training session.

Lee had sustained a knock during the Strasbourg match but appears to have recovered in time for the crucial Champions League encounter.

With both key players back in contention, PSG will be looking to capitalize on their 1-0 advantage from the first leg as they aim to secure a place in the Champions League final.
