PSG Unbeaten Season Aim

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique says the prospect of a PSG unbeaten season aim  in Ligue 1 provides extra motivation as they near another title win

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coach Luis Enrique has stated that the possibility of completing the Ligue 1 season without a single defeat is providing his team with added motivation as they stand on the verge of securing yet another French league title.

PSG currently hold a commanding 21-point lead over their closest rivals, Monaco, with just seven games remaining in the season.

This means that a single point – a draw – in their home match against Angers on Saturday will be sufficient for them to be mathematically confirmed as champions.

Luis Enrique’s side has maintained an unblemished record after 27 league matches and is therefore on track to become the first team in the history of the French top flight to complete an entire campaign without experiencing a loss.

“There are records which did not interest me until today, but from now on I don’t think there is a better source of motivation for us than trying to remain unbeaten for the whole league season,” the Spanish coach told reporters at PSG’s training ground outside Paris on Friday.

“We are already virtually champions, and keeping this unbeaten run going will help us to be ready in the French Cup, the final of which takes place at the end of May, and in the Champions League if we manage to get to the semi-finals.”

Even if PSG were to lose their match against Angers, they could still be confirmed as Ligue 1 title winners on Saturday if Monaco fails to secure a victory in their later game against Brest.

The Parisians are also on course to replicate their achievement from the previous season by sweeping all the domestic honours.

This follows their 4-2 victory over second-tier side Dunkerque in the French Cup semi-finals earlier in the week. They are now set to face top-flight strugglers Reims in the French Cup final on May 24th, 2025, here in Nigeria.

Looking ahead, PSG are also scheduled to play against Aston Villa in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, with the first leg taking place at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

The closest any French team has come to achieving an unbeaten league season remains Nantes, who went undefeated in their first 32 games before suffering their only loss en route to winning the title in the 1994/95 season.

That season comprised 38 matches, whereas PSG will only play 34 matches in the current campaign, following the recent reduction of the league from 20 to 18 clubs.

Dembele Fit PSG Arsenal

Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele has recovered from a hamstring injury and is fit to play in the crucial Champions League semi-final second leg against Arsenal, confirmed coach Luis Enrique

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has received a significant boost ahead of their Champions League semi-final second leg match against Arsenal, with star forward Ousmane Dembele declared fit to play.

The announcement was made by PSG coach Luis Enrique on Tuesday, following concerns about a hamstring injury sustained by the French international last week.

Dembele was substituted in the 70th minute of the first leg in London, shortly after scoring the decisive goal in the fourth minute, leading to doubts about his availability for Wednesday’s return fixture in Paris.

He subsequently missed PSG’s Ligue 1 match against Strasbourg on Saturday.

However, Dembele has since resumed training with the team at the beginning of the week, participating fully in the sessions.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Luis Enrique confirmed the positive news. “He’s been training with us for the last two days,” the coach stated. “You saw him today, a normal training session for him. He’ll be available tomorrow.”

The return of Dembele is a major lift for PSG as the France international has been in outstanding form this season, leading the team with 33 goals across all competitions.

In further positive news for the Parisian club, South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in also participated in the team’s training session.

Lee had sustained a knock during the Strasbourg match but appears to have recovered in time for the crucial Champions League encounter.

With both key players back in contention, PSG will be looking to capitalize on their 1-0 advantage from the first leg as they aim to secure a place in the Champions League final.
