Ekiti Man Kills Himself After Alleged Attempt on Daughter

Ekiti man allegedly attempted to kill his daughter before taking his own life. Police have launched a full investigation into the Ise Ekiti tragedy

The Ekiti State Police Command has opened an investigation into the death of a middle-aged man, identified as Segun, who reportedly took his own life after allegedly attempting to harm his 12-year-old daughter in Ise/Orun Local Government Area.

Sources in the community said the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

The man allegedly tried to slit his daughter’s throat before hanging himself from a tree behind their residence.

A local resident, Mr Patrick Abayomi says neighbours were alerted by unusual noises and cries from the house.

“People around said they were alerted by noise from the house early this morning. When they got there, they saw the lifeless body of the man dangling from a tree,” he said.

The injured girl was rushed to a nearby hospital and is reportedly responding to treatment.

“They quickly took the girl to the hospital to save her life. We learnt she is responding to treatment,” Abayomi added.

Some residents described the incident as shocking, with the motive remaining unclear.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the occurrence and said a full investigation has commenced.

Abutu stated, “The Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, has directed a thorough investigation into the incident.”

He added that the police are committed to unraveling the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
