According to a statement by LAWMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Mukaila Sanusi, the enforcement action followed targeted surveillance of unauthorised waste disposal activities in the area.

The operation, conducted at dawn, aimed to disrupt unregulated waste movement and prevent the re-emergence of previously cleared illegal dump sites.

“An individual named Muritala Suleiman, 42, from Zamfara State, was intercepted at around 1:31 a.m. while dumping waste illegally at Tinubu Square,” the statement read.

Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, LAWMA’s Managing Director and CEO, emphasised that the agency’s sustained enforcement efforts are designed to protect stabilised sites from renewed abuse.

“Waste Investigation, Surveillance and Enforcement operatives are strategically deployed across the state to eradicate persistent black spots and ensure sustainability along major corridors,” he said.

Established to manage solid waste and promote environmental sanitation, LAWMA has evolved from direct collection to a public-private partnership model, enhancing efficiency in waste management across residential, commercial, and industrial areas.
