Gbenga Daniel land dispute intervention earns praise from Apunren-Ijebu residents over efforts to resolve a decades-long military land conflict
Residents and indigenes of Apunren-Ijebu in Ogun East Senatorial District have commended Senator Gbenga Daniel for intervening in a decades-long land dispute involving communities around the Sappers Barracks in Ijebu-Ode.
The residents described the senator’s involvement as a significant breakthrough in a conflict that has left thousands of families facing uncertainty over disputed land and fears of possible eviction.
In a letter of appreciation signed by Oba Jimson Owode Oyelaja, the community expressed gratitude for what it described as timely support and advocacy at a period when previous appeals had yielded little progress.
According to the letter, the Gbenga Daniel Land Dispute Intervention helped restore hope among affected residents and reopened channels of dialogue between local communities and relevant authorities after years of tension.
Community leaders said the senator drew national attention to the issue by facilitating engagement through the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, creating an avenue for affected residents to present their concerns.
They added that the intervention contributed to mediation efforts involving military representatives and community stakeholders, leading to discussions aimed at resolving the longstanding disagreement.
The community further noted that senior military officials, including representatives of the Chief of Army Staff, participated in the dialogue process, a development they described as encouraging and indicative of a willingness to pursue a peaceful resolution.
Residents recalled that earlier stages of the dispute generated widespread anxiety, with concerns over housing, livelihoods and access to education affecting families across several communities.
The letter also praised Daniel’s commitment to the matter despite his legislative responsibilities at the national level, describing him as responsive to grassroots concerns and attentive to the welfare of his constituents.
According to the community, the renewed engagement has strengthened confidence that a lasting solution to the land de-acquisition dispute can be achieved through dialogue and collaboration.
While expressing appreciation for the senator’s efforts, residents urged him to sustain engagement with all parties until a final settlement is reached, enabling affected families to enjoy long-term stability and peace.
The community concluded by describing Daniel as a consistent advocate for their welfare whose actions have helped rebuild trust in public leadership and democratic representation.
