Gboyega Akosile Celebrates Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu At 55

Gboyega Akosile the Chief Press Secretary to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated the First Lady of the State, Dr. (Mrs) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on her 55th birthday.

Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, a medical doctor by profession, clocks 55 years today, Saturday, January 8, 2022.

Akosile in a statement made available to Crystal News said, “My first encounter with the Lagos State First Lady, Dr. Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, will forever remain indelible in my mind. I had gone for a meeting, sometime in 2019, with her husband who was then an aspirant vying for the position he currently occupies at their beautiful but modestly arranged home in Ikoyi.

“As I sat in the living room, waiting for my prospective boss to arrive, the woman of the house came in from the door, adjacent to where I sat. I knew instantly that this was my principal’s wife. I stood up to greet her but to my utter amazement, madam returned my greetings in an unbelievable manner-in a bent knee position (this to Yoruba people is a high-level courtesy).

“This act of Omoluabi, which came naturally that day set me thinking because madam is herself an accomplished public servant, a well-read and widely traveled medical doctor, who has also raised beautiful children that are on top of their class. I immediately whispered to myself, “this is a family you must work with”!

“This first encounter was not to be an accident as madam continued to excite my thoughts and imagination in many ways. One of such was a certain day that we had worked till late in the night. She came to me more than three times to ask whether I had been offered food and each time I’d said I was alright. The last time, she insisted that I must eat something. I told her that a cup of tea would be fine. Pronto madam went into her kitchen and personally made me the tea. At that time madam had about four domestic staff, including a cook and a chef, who we fondly call Mr. White. Those guys are still with her till date!

“Character is a major recipe for success. I have seen a display of great character in our First Lady-intelligent, warm, hospitable and generous, madam would call to find out how you’re doing-especially when she notices that something is going wrong with you and you’re troubled.

“A big supporter of her husband’s THEMES project. Dr. Mrs. Sanwo-Olu is one of the biggest promoters of the Governor’s development agenda. She does this through her numerous interventions for women and vulnerable people in society.

“Her campaign against sexual and gender-based violence in Lagos State has helped to reduce the incidence of rape and other forms of gender-based violence.

“Today is madam’s birthday. She deserves all the happiness, joy and prayers that come on a day like this.

“On behalf of my family, I wish our First Lady, Dr. Mrs. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu a happy birthday and many more years in sound health and joy for her to continue rendering more service to humanity.

Governor Dauda Lawal has approved a 120-day Rapid Intervention Action Plan aimed at addressing systemic failures in Zamfara State’s education sector.

The Governor presided over the State Executive Council meeting on Monday at the Government House in Gusau, where key decisions were taken.

During deliberations at the 65th Council meeting, issues related to education, health, works, and other sectors were discussed and approved.

The Council endorsed a 120-day rapid intervention plan built on prior diagnostic activities conducted by the Ministry of Education and the Education Quality Assurance Agency (EQAA). The plan, presented by the overseeing Commissioner for Education, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, includes payroll audits, school mapping exercises, and infrastructure assessments. It proposes targeted, time-bound interventions across governance, infrastructure, digital transformation, teacher development, and student welfare.

The Council also approved the formation of a joint committee to immediately assess all illegal or unapproved structures built around schools in the state, with a view to relocating them and securing school environments. The committee will be led by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST).

Additionally, the Council approved a single, unified Education Sector Bill (covering Early Childhood Care Development Education to Tertiary level), to be developed in consultation with stakeholders including agencies, institutions, civil society, traditional rulers, and development partners. A draft bill will be presented to the State House of Assembly for enactment within the emergency timeframe.

The Governor further approved the transfer of non-teaching staff—such as messengers, labourers, gardeners, cooks, guards, drivers, health workers, and artisans—from the Ministry’s payroll to appropriate MDAs (CPG, MoH, Establishment) or private firms.

Among other important issues, the Council approved the composition of the Zamfara State Steering Committee on the State of Emergency on Education and authorised the Committee to constitute a Technical Working Group (TWG) and co-opt stakeholders including the NUT, UNICEF, UBEC, traditional and religious leaders, private school proprietors, and CSOs.
