IGP Olatunji Disu presents N2.4bn to families of fallen police officers, enhancing welfare and recognising their sacrifices

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, presented cheques totalling N2.4 billion to 1,075 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased police officers at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. The disbursement covered the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.

The cheques, amounting to ₦2,435,421,584.11, span policy years 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023, and 2024/2025 to 2025/2026. The sum also included outstanding insurance claims recovered from prior years.

The Force Insurance Officer, Lydia Ameh, said the payments reflected the IGP’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of officers and their families.

She emphasised that decisive measures had been taken to ensure compliance by insurance providers and to prevent delays in claim settlements.

Disu described the ceremony as a solemn recognition of the sacrifices made by officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

He said the presentation went beyond financial support, representing the Force’s enduring obligation to honour courage, service, and commitment while supporting their families.

The IGP also highlighted plans to leverage modern technology to enhance transparency, streamline claims processing, and strengthen welfare frameworks across the Force.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated that the sacrifices of fallen officers remain invaluable to national peace, security, and stability, while reaffirming its commitment to efficient and accountable administration of welfare programmes.
