Imo killings silence has triggered a wave of outrage from the Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which strongly criticized Governor Hope Uzodinma for failing to speak or act following the massacre of innocent citizens in Ideato North Local Government Area.

In a press release on Wednesday, party spokesperson Lancelot Obiaku described the governor’s silence since the July 24 killings as “deeply troubling,” arguing that such a tragic event warranted not just a public address but a personal condolence visit to affected communities.
“The Governor’s silence in the face of such gruesome carnage proves he is completely detached from the suffering of Imo people,” said Obiaku. “No words, no empathy, no action.”
The Imo killings silence follows a pattern, the PDP noted, referencing a series of violent attacks including:
A May 8 assault in Umuna, Okigwe LGA, where over 20 lives were lost
A May 6 kidnapping of 26 passengers in Ngor-Okpala, with one confirmed killed
Repeated attacks in Agwa (Oguta LGA), Amakohia-Ubi (Owerri West), and widespread insecurity in Avu, Obinze, and Okuku
According to the PDP, these incidents demonstrate an escalating security crisis in the state. The party accused Uzodinma of abandoning governance in favor of political activities in Abuja, leaving Imo people in fear and hopelessness.
“Governor Uzodinma has become immune to the bloodshed in his state. His absence is now a dangerous norm,” Obiaku declared.
The PDP called on the state government and security agencies to immediately activate responsive mechanisms to bring perpetrators to justice and prevent further tragedies.

“It is time for responsible leadership, not hollow titles,” the statement concluded.

Insecurity: Governor Dauda Lawal Commends Troops for Recovering Ammunitions, Rustled Cattle
Zamfara State Executive Governor, Dr Dauda Lawal has commended the troops for their efforts and commitment to the fight against banditry in the state.
On Saturday, the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Zamfara Police Command successfully recovered 329 cattle and 175 sheep from bandits in the Gambanda forest in Gummi Local Government.
Governor Lawal, while appreciating the troops, described the Zamfara State Police’s renewed efforts as encouraging and promising in the fight against banditry.
He said, “I commend the effort of all the security operatives in Zamfara State, especially the Zamfara State Police Command, for its resilience, bravery and commitment in recovering 329 cattle, 175 sheep, weapons and ammunition from bandits.
“The police engaged and overpowered the bandits in Gambanda forest in Gummi local government area, which led to the recovery.
“This commendable action reflects their tireless work in the face of challenges posed by criminal elements and underscores the police’s role in protecting the livelihoods of the people of Zamfara State.
“The remarkable display of bravery and the successful recovery of livestock and weapons highlight the strong leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammad Bello. His guidance has been instrumental in improving public safety and combating banditry.
“My administration remains committed to providing support to all security agencies in their efforts to ensure safety and security for our people.”
