Fabrizio Romano says Andres Iniesta has not signed to become Morocco’s technical director. Talks are ongoing following Walid Regragui’s resignation

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has dismissed reports claiming that Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta has been appointed as the new technical director of the Moroccan national football team following Walid Regragui’s resignation.

Regragui resigned with immediate effect yesterday, just six weeks after Morocco’s defeat to Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final on home soil. This sparked widespread speculation that Iniesta had already signed a contract to take over the role.

Romano took to X on Friday to clarify the situation, stating that while discussions are ongoing, no official agreement has been signed.

“Despite reports, nothing signed or official yet between Andrés Iniesta and Morocco to become the new technical director,” Romano tweeted.

He added, “Talks are taking place, the Moroccan Federation wants Iniesta as director, but not a done deal yet. Decision up to Andrés.”

Observers note that the Moroccan Football Federation remains keen on bringing Iniesta into a leadership role, but final confirmation will depend entirely on the Spanish legend’s decision.
