According to a statement by SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, two suspects were arrested in separate operations for attempting to traffic locally made firearms into Kano State.

The first suspect, 30-year-old Abdussamad Haruna, was nabbed by officers from Kazaure Divisional Headquarters around 6:00 am on July 8, 2025. Haruna, a resident of Dansure village, was caught with a locally made revolver rifle hidden in a sack.

Twelve days later, on July 20, police apprehended 24-year-old Auwalu Yusuf from Kofar Wambai, Kano, recovering another illegal rifle from him.

Preliminary investigations suggest that both men may be linked to a larger gunrunning syndicate operating out of Sabon Layi, Barikin Ladi in Plateau State. This group is believed to be supplying weapons to criminal elements across Jigawa and Kano States.
