Residents speaking in Kaduna on Tuesday said they remain grateful to God for witnessing another Sallah season, insisting that financial constraints would not prevent them from fulfilling their spiritual obligations.

Many respondents maintained that religious observance should be guided by personal means, noting that sacrifice is not compulsory when resources are limited.

Alhaji Murtala Jimoh, Managing Director of Kaduna Motors, said worshippers should not feel pressured beyond their capacity, stressing that devotion is ultimately about sincerity.

“It is necessary to sacrifice an animal, especially a ram, but where you cannot afford one, there is no punishment,” he said.

Hajia Salamatu Moses, however, criticised what she described as sudden price inflation, accusing some traders of exploiting the festive period to increase profits.

She said while prices are generally high, the situation becomes worse during celebrations when demand rises sharply.

In response, a ram seller at Kaduna Central Market, Mallam Idrisu Konduga, attributed the price surge to insecurity affecting livestock rearing and supply chains.

He explained that many herders have reduced production due to fear of attacks, leading to scarcity and higher market prices.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Cattle Rearers Association in Kaduna State, Mallam Musa Lali, said rising transportation costs and maintenance of livestock have contributed to increased prices.

A member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly also noted that seasonal price increases are not new, adding that traders often maximise profit during festive periods.

Despite the economic pressure, residents insist that Sallah celebrations will go on as planned, with many prioritising faith and family observance over material challenges.
