Rabiu Kwankwaso made the appeal in a post shared via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, describing the move as a commitment to democratic values and national development.

The former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party said the decision to join the NDC was driven by a desire to build a credible political platform that can serve the people effectively.

“We are determined to provide our people with a credible platform where they can thrive and realise their full potential,” Rabiu Kwankwaso stated.

He urged Nigerians, including his supporters across the country and in the diaspora, to join the party and support its vision for good governance and democratic progress.

“I therefore call on all our dedicated supporters and well-meaning Nigerians to join the NDC and stand with us in this renewed fight for good governance and true democracy,” he added.

Kwankwaso’s statement follows the formal unveiling of both him and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as members of the NDC during a reception in Abuja on Sunday.

The event brought together key political figures, with calls for unity and a peaceful political process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Peter Obi, in his remarks, described the move as part of efforts to build a stable political environment focused on national development and inclusion.

Kwankwaso also noted that consultations with the party leadership revealed strong alignment on key issues such as education, youth empowerment, security, and national unity.

He further encouraged interested Nigerians, especially young people and professionals in the diaspora, to take advantage of the ongoing registration process to join the party.

The NDC is expected to conclude its membership registration exercise ahead of submitting its register to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
